A little math game some may be interested in. Lotta fireworks going off last few days. If you’ve ever been interested in how far away the fireworks are, here’s how to pinpoint their location for fun. Either that or to get some jerk to stop setting ’em off at 3:30am. LOL
Here’s what you need:
1. Android stopwatch (or any other stopwatch)
2. Google maps
3. Speed of sound
– The moment you see the firework, start the stopwatch.
– The moment you hear the sound wave, hit stop!
For me the speed of sound was roughly 1146 feet per second and in this instance it took 3.75 seconds for the sound wave to reach me. 4297 feet away (0.81 miles) as pictured
